The Mervaqoe™ Chunky Cable Knit Cardigan is built around a specific decision — use a wool blend rather than pure wool, and put the warmth in the structure of the knit rather than the thickness of the yarn.

The blend is an acrylic-wool mix, which gives you the thermal behaviour of wool with almost none of the prickle. Pure wool at this gauge would itch against a short sleeve within twenty minutes; this one can be worn over a tank or directly against the neck without complaint. It is also machine-friendly, which matters for a piece this size — a hand-wash-only cardigan is a cardigan that gets worn less.

The cable knit is where the warmth comes from. Cabling creates raised columns of interlocking stitches that trap air within the fabric, so you get genuine insulation without the weight of a thick, dense knit.
