Full description

Swimwear fails in two ways, and both are unpleasant. It fails structurally — a strap slips, a waistband rolls, the top shifts when you raise your arms. And it fails materially — colour fades to a pale version of itself by August, the fabric goes thin and shiny, and the lining starts to curl out at the leg. The Mervaqoe™ Two-Piece Swimsuit is specified against both, starting with the fabric.

The material is a nylon-spandex swim knit with chlorine and salt resistance built into the fibre rather than applied as a coating. That distinction is what determines whether a swimsuit lasts one season or three. Coatings wash off; fibre-level resistance does not. It also holds saturated colour far better — turquoise is one of the shades that goes chalky fastest under chlorine and sunscreen, and this fabric is chosen specifically because it does not. UPF 50+ is woven into the structure, so it does not degrade in the way a sprayed-on treatment does.

The cut is retro and that is a functional choice, not just an aesthetic one. A high-waisted bottom with a wide waistband does two practical things: it covers the area most people want covered, and the wide band has enough surface area to sit flat and smooth rather than cutting in like a narrow elastic. The leg is cut high enough to lengthen the line without going to a full brief. The top is bandeau-style with wide straps rather than thin ties — more support, no digging at the shoulder, and nothing to re-tie every time you stand up.

Everything is fully lined, front and back. An unlined swimsuit goes translucent the moment it is wet, which is the single most common reason a swimsuit gets worn once and retired. Full lining also gives the fabric enough body to hold its shape when wet rather than clinging to every line. The lining is stitched down at the seams so it does not roll out at the leg opening after a swim.

Turquoise is the colour that looks best against water and sun and photographs better than any other swim colour — worth knowing before you choose a second one. The set also runs in fuchsia, tangerine and scarlet.
